Serving Size: 3 persons

 

Ingredients:

Ilish/Shad - 6 pieces

Basmati Rice - 2 cups

Green Chillies - 4, slit

Turmeric powder - 1/4  tsp

Kalonji - 1/2 tsp

Salt - To taste

Mustard Oil - 4 tbsp

 

 

 

 

Preparing:

  1. Rub fish with a pinch of turmeric, and  salt.

  2. Wash rice, drain water and keep aside.

Cooking procedure:

  1. Heat oil in a deep bottom vessel or handi.

  2. Fry the fish pieces lightly on medium-low heat (about 2-3 minutes). Remove and keep aside.

  3. Remove excess oil leaving 1 tbsp in the handi.

  4. When oil is hot, add kalonji and green chillies. Fry till seeds splutter.

  5. Turn heat to low and add rice. Fry on low heat for 1 minute.

  6. Add 3 cups water, salt to taste and the fried fish.

  7. Keep heat setting to medium-low, cover the handi with a tight-fitting lid and cook for 15-17 minutes.

  8. Turn off heat and keep rice covered for 5 more minutes and then remove to serve.

 

Serving Suggestions:

Its a meal by itself and usually does not require any accompaniments.
