Ingredients:

Karela - 1 medium size cut into rings (about quarter inch)

Maida or Besan - 1/2 cup

Posto (Poppy seeds) - 1/2 tsp

Kalonji seeds - 1/4th tsp

Baking soda - a pinch

Haldi - One pinch

Salt - To taste

White Oil - about 1/2 cup

 

           

 

 

 

 

 

 

Preparation procedure:

  1. Immerse karela rings in boiling water for 2-3 minutes and remove onto a strainer. Add salt, and turmeric.

  2. Batter : To maida add 1/4th cup water and make a homogenous mix. To it add posto, kalonji and salt to taste.

 

Cooking procedure:

  1. Heat oil in a kadai. Make sure the oil is very hot.

  2. Dip the rings in batter and add to oil.

  3. Fry till golden brown and remove on to a paper towel to drain excess oil.

 

Serving Suggestions:

Serve with hot rice as a starter for a typically bengali meal.
