(Lentil with Green Mango)

Serving Size: 4 persons

Ingredients:

Toor Dal - 1 cup

Green Mango - 1 small, cut into 1 inch squares

Mustard Seeds - 1/4 tsp

Asafoetida/Hing - a pinch

Turmeric - 1/4 tsp

Red Chilli Powder - 1/4 tsp

Dry Red Chillies - 2-3

Sugar - 2 tsp

Salt - To taste

Oil - 1 tbsp

 

 

 

 

 

 

Cooking procedure:

 

Cook the Dal

  1. Boil dal in 2 cups water, turmeric, red chilli powder and salt. Consistency of the dal should be thick.

  2. Cook till dal is three quarter cooked, remove and keep aside.

Season the Dal

  1. Mix asafoetida in warm water and keep aside while dal is being cooked.

  2. Heat oil, to it add dry red chilly, and mustard seeds. Fry until seeds  splutter.

  3. Add green mango pieces and continue to fry for 1 min on medium heat.

  4. Add dal. Bring to boil, & simmer until mangoes are cooked.

  5. Add sugar, boil for a minute and remove from heat.

Serving

  • This dish is served cold with plain rice and fries.
