This dish is made with karela and (Matar or Chana ) dal. Low oil content and few required ingredients makes this dish a favorite for a regular lunch menu!

 

Serving Size: 3 persons

Ingredients:

Karela - 2 medium (about 150 g), cut into thin strips

Motor Dal or Cholar Dal - 1/4 cup

Green Chillies - 2, slit

Kalijira/kalonji Seeds - 1/2 tsp

Hing - a pinch

Turmeric - a pinch

Salt - To taste

White Oil - 3 tbsp

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Preparation:

  1. Soak dal for at least 3 hours. Add salt and grind to paste.

  2. To the ground dal, add hing and kalijira seeds and mix thoroughly. Keep aside.

  3. Cut karela into thin strips and immerse in salt water. Drain and keep aside.

Cooking procedure:

  1. Heat oil to smoking. Turn heat to medium and add karela. Fry for 10 minutes on medium heat.

  2. When karela is soft, turn heat to low. Add the green chillies, dal and fry on low heat for 8-10 minutes.

  3. Remove from heat and serve hot.

Serving:

Serve with ghee bhath (white rice with ghee)
