Ingredients:

Rice - 3 cups

Water - 4 and 1/2 cups

Tomato - 3 medium, sliced

Onions - 2 medium, sliced

Ginger - 1 and 1/2 tsp, grated

Garlic - 1 and 1/2 tsp, grated

Curry leaves - 8-10, whole

Coriander leaves/Dhonepata/Cilantro - 3 tbsp, chopped

Chilli Powder - 1/2 tsp

Mustard Seeds - 1 tsp

Whole Red Chillies - 2

Salt - To taste

Oil/Ghee - 1 tbsp

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Cooking procedure:

  1. Heat oil and add mustard seeds and dry red chillis, fry for 30 seconds on medium-high.

  2. Add the onions and fry for 1 minute.

  3. Add the ginger and garlic pastes and fry for 4 min.

  4. Add the chilli powder, fresh coriander leaves, salt, and tomatoes, and fry for 5 minutes.

  5. Add the rice and stir for 2 minutes on medium heat.

  6. Pour water and bring to a boil.

  7. Lower the heat to medium, cover and cook for 15-16 minutes. Leave the rice to stand for 5 minutes.

 

Serving Suggestions:

Serve hot with sambhar and pickles. Non-vegetarians may try the Jewish Chicken Roast with this dish for a dinner menu.
